Qualification certificate as a ship machinist on vessels with a motor capacity of up to 750 kW

Additional offers for technical students/ regular students. The technical school offers to existing students of the technical education courses, among others, the possibility of a certificate as a ship machinist on vessels with a motor capacity of up to 750 kW.

Requirements for participation

The successful completion of vocational education for a ship mechanic

or

The successful completion of vocational education in a vocational training program in metal or electrical engineering and a seafaring service in the engine room of at least 6 months

and

attendance at the technical training course to acquire the qualification as nautical watch officer.

Conclusion

After successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of participation from the institute. It is important to note that the institute can only request the qualification as a ship machinist on vessels with a motor capacity of up to 750 kW from the BSH (Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency) or the WSD (Waterways and Shipping Directorate) in conjunction with the qualification as a nautical watch officer.

 

Application, without the prior qualification as nautical watch officer, is not possible. Therefore, the institute itself is applying for the qualification certificates en bloc. The requested qualification certificates shall be handed out to the students during patent awards upon successful completion of the technical education course.

Necessary Documents

The application for the qualification certificate as a ship machinist on vessels with a motor capacity of up to 750 kW, the following documentation is required to be submitted to the secretary:

• Two identical passport pictures

• Valid certificate proving the fitness for sea service / ship machinist papers (usually is on hand)         
or

• Certificate of completion of vocational education in an occupation of metal or electrical engineering 
and
• Proof of seafaring service in the engine room of at least 6 months (if it is not yet available)

 

[Translate to English:] Für die Beantragung des Befähigungszeugnisses zum Schiffsmaschinisten auf Schiffen mit einer Antriebsleistung bis zu 750 kW werden folgende Unterlagen benötigt und sind dem Sekretariat vorzulegen:

  • zwei gleiche Passbilder
  • gültiges Seedienst-tauglichkeitszeugnis Schiffsmechanikerbrief (liegt i.d.R. vor) oder
  • Abschlusszeugnis der Berufsausbildung in einem Beruf der Metall- oder Elektrotechnik und ein
  • Nachweis über die Seefahrtzeit im Maschinendienst von mind. 6 Monaten ( wenn er noch nicht vorliegen sollte)
