Information for Technical Students

Leer is the only university site in Germany, in which a technical school for maritime studies is integrated into a Faculty of Maritime Studies. This is for us our much loved 'permeability of the education system'. We offer a most suitable maritime education ranging from vocational education to the Master of Science (and with it doctorate maturity).

After passing the final examinations, the applicant receives the qualification as a nautical watch officer and the school degree as a certified engineer. With this qualification certificate you can carry out the duties of a nautical watch officer on freight and passenger ships of all sizes and on all routes.

For the qualification of first officer, the applicant has to complete and prove seafaring service of at least 12 months as a nautical watch officer. To earn your certificate for the qualification of captain, the applicant has to prove and complete additional seafaring service of at least 12 months.

The technical training course places a lot of value on practice-oriented teaching on a technical school standard in a class environment. That’s why more technical school teachers sail regularly with various shipping companies. This is confirmed annually by the Quality Management system.

We also offer further education opportunities, as ROC/GOC (February/September, on request)!
